Grandmother's Kitchen

The kiddos and I made a somewhat spontaneous trip this week to visit my grandparents. My grandfather who will turn 90 in December is in failing health, so I decided to join my sister and her family in visiting. The trip was a 10 hour drive for me and it was the first time I have ever driven that far on my own.

I am staying in my grandparents home while here. Every afternoon we go to visit Granddaddy in the hospital, and we have had some sweet times with him! It is amazing how many memories have surfaced while I have been here. The neat thing is that these sweet memories aren't of grand adventures or lavish parties. These memories are comprised of simple things like Granddaddy's chair, hikes around the farm and Grandmother's kitchen. The picture above captures how I will forever remember Grandmother: diligently working in her kitchen, showing love by serving her family.

Our Son's Tribute to Veterans!

This morning, in honor of Veteran's Day, I showed this video to my son. It obviously got him thinking about soldiers, because after practicing piano, he did this:

This is so typical of him. He is always acting out what is on his mind.

I love how the soldiers of many wars and time periods are represented. He even asked my while setting it up, "Are our soldiers still fighting in Afghanistan?"

On this Veteran's Day, let us honor those who have served and are presently serving. Let us also live in a manner worth protecting!
