I know many people hate New Year's Resolutions, because they feel they are just setting themselves up for failure.
I, however, love a fresh start and the opportunity to reflect, evaluate and then set goals.
One of my resolutions for this year is to READ.
I love to read. I love it so much that I often avoid reading. I know that when I pick up a book, I will get so involved in it that I won't be able to put it down. Then, schooling, housework, laundry and all my other responsibilities will be neglected until the book is finished. In an effort to solve this problem, I am going to schedule reading time. I'll let you know how it goes.

I also resolve to read to my children more. My two kiddos love to read, and I often find myself telling them no when they ask me to read to them. I think I am too busy with other duties to read to them. I want to change that this year and spend a lot of time reading to them. I have started a wish list on Amazon of books I plan to purchase for them this year, and we will be taking regular trips to the library this year.

The kids and I just finished "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls....half way through, I remembered the ending and had to get the Kleenex ready for all three of us. We're in the beginning of "Treasure Island" (the real one, by Robert Louis Stevenson)and hope to have no need for Kleenex! HAPPY READING!!
My girls and I are reading the Betsy-Tacy series (at least the first few books so far!) and they LOVE them. I think they would be perfect for your girl. (I've been loaning them to a friend's 2nd grader and she's been devouring them as well.)
I'm at loose ends right now for myself - not sure what to start next. I just read a historical fiction book by Janette Oke (The Centurion's Wife). From one history major to another, you would probably really enjoy it!
